I refuse to let them drag me down.  They used to and it did my psyche absolutely zero good.  Now I blow them off.  I highly encourage everyone in this thread to do the same thing.    I had a bad moment a few months ago then realized the moron had no idea who I was or what I was about.  I started to laugh about it and felt much better (yes, it was a personal attack).

Fuck bad reviews.  I laugh at them.  I won't let those people have power over me.  I know I have a devoted fanbase for a reason and if someone doesn't like my books, they can go read something else.  Personal attacks are just people trying to get a rise out of you.  I find silence is the best answer.

The whole book is amazing!  Tim Long's tale is so cool there are no words.  Anthony Giangregorio's tale will leave you wanting to read more of his stuff it's so awesome.  Yes, even Rhia's tale is great.  Support the Doc and all the amazing authors in this book.  Order your copy now or at least the moment it hits Amazon.  And once it hits Amazon, I hope everyone will pitch in and spread the word with amazon links to it.  Let's make this book a hit for the authors for deserve it and the Doc.Later,ESB

I just got around to ordering my copy, since I have been able to get through most of the huge stack of books I have been ready from my last purchasing binge.  I am looking forward to it.

Despite the despised big ol' head named Robert R Best writing it, it is VERY good!

I mean if I were being pushy, I would demand you have it done by Friday. at 10:00pm sharp.

-lordastral

And I would tell you to fuck off. :)

I have no way to give you any sort of "measure" of where I am at. I read stories more than once.  Especially if there are two that are similiar in theme and/or plot.

Sorry.

Re: Common Mistakes Writers Make When Submitting Their Work

November 3, 2009 by rhiannonfrater

You shouldn't be using spell check at all. Too unreliable.

-keithdbz

I disagree.  I think you should ALWAYS use spellcheck.  But you should also keep a dictionary handy to look up any words that "look" wrong or you are not sure about.

Author's often don't "see" their mistakes, so a word can be misspelled, but they don't "see" it because their brain is transposing the correct word over it.

I think people should always have another person read their work to look for errors.

Re: I want a "Standard Sumbission Guidelines" posted

November 3, 2009 by rhiannonfrater

I also want a Guideline for the Editors and Compilers. How to accept. How to reject. How to ask for rewrite. How to help with the author's submission .... etc.
SKYPE would be fine, but I want all of this written down.
Sorry to be so anal about this, but this publishing stuff has grown so big, so fast, that I want everything to run smoothly, professionally and respectfully.
Doc

-dr-pus

Doc, I have no problem writing up the sub guidelines once they are agreed upon. Also, I have a buttload of suggestions on how to accept submissions, etc.  I know I'm a pain in the ass, but I think I got some solid ideas on how to make things cleaner and, hopefully, easier for the editors/compilers and those submitting their work.

Should we meet up on Saturday to talk on Skype?

Make two volumes. That will take some of the stress from you. And it will give me two books instead of one!

-dr-pus

If that's what you want, that's what you'll get!

Re: The Library of Horror Presents WOLFOLOGY I: Tales of a Full Moon--SUBMISSIONS CLOSED

November 3, 2009 by rhiannonfrater

With close to 100 submissions, I'm buried.  There is probably room for 25 to 30 stories.  That is a whole lot of rejections.  So far the stories are pretty damn good.  I'm going to have to really concentrate on getting just the right mix together.

I'm doing this on top of editing "The Zombie-Wilson Diaries" and the Tales from the Cauldron.

Re: Too many?

November 3, 2009 by rhiannonfrater

That's an impressive list, Eric.

Re: I want a "Standard Sumbission Guidelines" posted

November 3, 2009 by rhiannonfrater

Perhaps the Editors/Compilers and I need to get together and put up a complete guideline. Some of the stuff that is in Shunn I don't like. The new novels are being printed as justified and single spaced. They look more professional. 12 point Microsoft Sans Serif is now what I'm using. It just looks more professional and it is easier to read.

I don't want anything "embedded" in the submissions. No weird fonts, no headers, no weird line breaks.

We need to get together.

-dr-pus

Skype chat maybe?

Re: I want a "Standard Sumbission Guidelines" posted

November 3, 2009 by rhiannonfrater

If you look at Doc's books, he tries to format them for readability.  There is a larger font, 1.5 line spacing and yes, double spaces between sentences.  Whether or not this dates us or not, it does make text a lot easier to read.  Doc's books are a lot easier on the

The reason why I posted the guidelines I did was because they fit what Doc is already doing with his books.  If everyone submits in the guidelines posted, it is a helluvalot easier to format the entire manuscript without dealing with any funkiness.

Re: I want a "Standard Sumbission Guidelines" posted

November 3, 2009 by rhiannonfrater

Actually, there is a guide to the industry standard located here:  http://libraryofthelivingdead.lefora.com/2009/07/18/anthologies-submission-guidelines-please-sticky/page1/#post14146301

and copied in the Library of Horror thread as well.

Isn't this what you're asking for?  Or am I smoking crack?

<cut and pasted from thread>

General submission guidelines:

  1. RTF format (no other formats accepted)

  2. Place name of anthology you are submitting to in the subject line of your email

  3. Include contact information, your real name, and pen name (if applicable) in your cover letter

  4. Your cover letter should include any of your previous writing credits, a brief explanation of who you are, and a very brief synopsis of your story including the including the title.  Also, tell us where you heard about the anthology.

For a clear guideline on how your story should be formatted for submission, please check out this link:

http://www.shunn.net/format/story.html
