Is anyone out there interested in knowing when I put something new up on the blog for Distant Worlds (and later Distant Realms)?
Not that I'm specifically trying to ram this down everyone's throats (well, not just that), and it's mostly just been announcements so far (open for submissions, listed on Ralan, Duotrope, and ANaR, and one absolutely hilarious LOL Cat for writers that's a bit weirder as an editor now), but if anyone wants to know what I'm putting up there without having to go and check to see if I've posted, I'll happily put it in this thread.
Very interested!
Two votes is certainly enough for me!

Not so much extending the guidelines as a general answer to some of the queries I've received.

As a writer, the funniest LOL Cat I've ever seen.

Posted early this morning, confirmation of Distant Worlds being listed on Anthology News and Reviews.
Tomorrow, the Progress page gets its first real set of numbers and I'm plotting a new post for Monday or Tuesday.
Okay, I've posted the first update of the Progress page.

In the next couple of days, look for the first post in what will likely be a series titled something like "An Editor's Journey" or something equally cheesy.
I am working on a story to send you, completely from scratch so will probably be a couple of weeks yet.
5K in.
Experience tells me the bulk of submissions will probably come in the last couple of weeks before the deadline. That's when I usually send mine.
I'd hoped to have a blog post finished to go up tonight as well, but Day Job was a little more demanding than usual so it's only about half done. Probably tomorrow. I hope. For tonight, I've updated the Progress page as I've gone through two more novellas (novelle?) in the last couple of days, and I'm very pleased to announce my first shortlisted story.

Day Job once again demanding, but I put the first in a series of blogposts up I'm titling 'The Editor's Journey.' Although maybe it should be 'This Editor' or 'One Editor.' It's never too late, but I have posted it already.

I'm not that surprised, but I'm expecting the floodgates to open in late December. I'm going to have a really hard time with the 2-week response target I want at that point.
Sometimes the length just happens. I've been beating one of my own into a semi-readable format over the last couple of months. My original idea for the story looked like 10-12k but it just kept getting bigger as I wrote. When finally finished, it broke 23. I'm 2/3 through the first edit, fixing structural issues and things that bother me (which seems to be a lot), and it's over 27 now. Still 8k untouched and at least one scene to add. It'll be done someday.
Part 2 of the Editor's Journey. Guidelines! As always, my opinions. Your mileage may vary.

New post, A Note On Story Length. http://dwdr.wordpress.com/2009/11/12/a-note-on-story-length/
Plus, progress page updated. http://dwdr.wordpress.com/progress/
For those curious, another progress page update. Two subs in the queue. http://dwdr.wordpress.com/progress/
Another progress page update. Still two subs in the queue, but a second story on the shortlist! http://dwdr.wordpress.com/progress/
Yes, I need to get another post up on the front page. It's about half written.
58 days left? Good, I have a ways to go to get my sub the way I want it.
2 on the shortlist already, not bad!
My story is dreadfully twisted. I hope I finish in time.
(See, I said time and that was a play on word with the title of my story and at this point I think I'm only amusing myself so I will stop while I am ahead.)
I'm allowed to have explicit sex, right?

You're over 18, you can have any kind of sex you want. (In West Virginia it's 14).
I think Canada is 16 unless 1 partner is less than five years older than the other, then it's 14. That's if they changed the law last year like they said they were going to. I never heard.
As far as explicit sex in the story, Nickie, as long as it's not there just so your characters get to have sex, that's fine. If it does nothing for the story, I'll have to ask if it really needs to be there. But if it needs to be there... go nuts!
Oh, and it's 57 days now.
