I'm polishing up a fantasyish novel and I'll send it your way perhaps next week?  Egads, I'm scared!!!  What is the preferred word count?

I will get started right away.  As soon as I can see the characters in my mind, I will start.  I will aim for 120K on the novel, so I can pare it down to about 90K-100K.

It has been true of every story I write that once I have it written, cutting away words makes it better.  I will therefore follow that same idea for my first novel.

In fact, as I am writing this the story is starting to unfold in my mind....

One other thing.  We have written a lot of anthologies using short stories and flash fiction.  For the sci-fi fantasy library, we could look at publishing a compendium of novellas, stories longer than 10k but not necessarily full length novels.

The novels will need to be atleast 90K.

I would consider a novella collection with stories at 30K.

Hmmm... I think I may be short on word count but as I said, it needs polishing.  Yay--a weekend project!!!

I could probably get something polished and to you by the end of the year (sounds like a long time, but it's just a couple of months now).  Is that too long to wait?  I really want to join in the reindeer games.  :)

Got any preferences as far as subgenres?  Anything you absolutely don't want to see?

Sorry Doc, I'm only a third of the way there. But I am interested. I have to finish my werewolf collection and the sequel to Revolt of the Dead (which is under contract) so I have no idea when I could have my fantasy novel completed by.

Hmmm.  Might take me a little longer to have something for this than I thought.

Doc, I'd love to either submit something towards a novella collection or be involved in the reading/editing for it.  The novella is a far under-represented length any genre.  Maybe three collections?  One Fantasy, one SF, one Horror?

(Am I pushing things a bit? <g>)

I have had a fantasy novel in mind for a long time. It would be a long time before I could finish it, but I'm certainly interested!

Hurm.  Color me confused.  Are you saying you would consider a novella + stories in a collection that topped out at 30k?

Please clarify for those of us with meager math skills. grin

I have a chum who's written a wicked sci-fi fantasy set on Earth as if all the olde worlde countries still existed (like Prussia).  That sounds a little boring but I can assure you it's got a cracking plot grin I'll tell him that LOSF&F is now open for business!

(in fact one of the two books sitting in the slush pile would probably fit into here nicely, apart from the zombies at the end :))
