Shattered glass falls from the window of the thiry-third floor. The tar seals on the street bubble from the chemical fire burning inside the front lobby. A burning figure bursts through the last remaining window in the building. The body flails in vain to extingish the flames, trips and rolls down the steps onto the street.
The sign above the front door, Merton Bio-Medical, slowly burns into oblivion.
The last date crossed off on the calendar is June 17th, 2006. The day that life lost control, and passed the torch to the dead. A reminder that the human race was no longer the dominent species.
The employees held a dark secret, the cause and the cure were their doing. The blood of billions stain their hands for the actions done.
Four stories below in a secured area of the facility, a team of seven doctors work feverishly on the final version of the cure. The fire spreads above them throughout the complex, mild tremors can be felt from the explosions from the armory.
"Are the sensors still online?"
"Yes Doctor Burk, the integrity of the lower levels have not been compromised as of yet"
"Thank You, Emery!"
The dissection of the motionless cadaver continues on the slab, the team withdrawls fluids from the body.
"Please get a sixteen gauge syringe, there seems to be residual fluid within the upper left chamber of the heart"
"Yes doctor", the nurse replies and reaches for the large syringe on the equipment table.
The team is watched through a two-way mirror, the last remaining executive of Merton Bio-Medical watches in anticipation. What has he found? Rising from his chair, Marvin Merton begins to pace the room.I know I've been let down before, this seems...different. He continues to mumble to himself when his assistant walks in with two cups of synthetic coffee.
"Sir, your coffee"
"Thanks, Windber"
"What seems to be doing Sir?"
"Not sure Winny, but the good doctor is up to something"
