Don't know what to say here...

A friend of mine tried writing a zombie story.  In it, his zombies swam from New Mexico to Alaska to attack a vampire city.  They talked the whole way, and they bled when the vampires hit them.  He claims he knew what zombies were capable of, and they he was only trying to reinvent them.   ???

hmm...one thing to try and reinvent something, but it is another thing to change it completely. i've always thought the best way to reinvent zombies were to show small evolutionary steps over two or three stories.

but i'm not a professional so my thoughts really don't mean much either.

now his idea can work if it is done right. for most readers, i suppose there would be a fine line that would have to be straddled for it to be accepted.

The worst part of it is that New Mexico doesn't even have a coastline.

It is always frustrating when you see monsters that are completely different then what you expect.  Most times it would be better if they just gave the monster a new name.

ok, new mexico, now that is pushing it unless there was major tectonic shifting that was part of the plot that changed the landscape of the area. if not, that is pushing it quite a bit and i feel that the idea is not the best. is the writer going for absolutely changing everything?

I agree with junkenstein99, I think small evolutionary steps are better. I guess the zombies could have walked to the west coast before swimming to Alaska.
