Hey everyone.  I've had this idea rolling around in my head for a while, and wanted to get it out of there.  I'm posting this to see if there is intrest in me continuing this story.  I have only been writing for a little while, well ever since the good Doc asked us to write in for the Letter's of the Dead.  So I'm not trained by any means.  But I am looking to improve my skills.  So if you have the time, please let me know what you think.

                                 Footsteps of gods.

Chapter one:

Two weeks ago, I was a normal dude, no crazy crap ever happened to me.  I had a normal job working for Unlimited Magazine.  I took pictures of stuff and made a good living.  I had a dog named Schmoe and seventeen thousand dollars in the bank.  I planned to take a trip to Greece later on this year.  I was hoping to take super model Shelly Stevens with me.  But all of that has changed.  Something has happened.  Everything is all wrong.  Two weeks ago I was invited to the big Super Bowl party by Chase Kilbourne.  He knew everybody, Super models, playboy bunnies, football players, and big money movie stars.   I was starting to make a big name for myself in the photography business,  some said I had the new keen eye for this generation.  The party was what you would expect, sex, drugs, drinking and crazy stupid celebration of the big game.  At half time I went to the biggest bathroom I had ever seen with just one toilet.   I sat down to take care of my business.  The sounds in the house were deafening, filled with laughing, screaming, and yelling in one form or another.  I put my head in my heads to try and stop the spinning from having too much to drink, when all of the sound outside abruptly stopped.  The ringing in my head grew loud, and I thought I was deaf.  I quickly finished and flushed the toilet.    I was starting to panic, when I realized I heard the water go down the bowl.  I looked back and watched the bowl fill back up.  Did I pass out and it's the next day already?  I pulled up my shorts and opened the door.  Silence was all around me, my hair stood up on end all over my body.  Something was really out of sorts.  I walked down the hall and the party and all the people there, where still.  They were just not moving.  I walked up to Chase who was standing by the bar.  He was in mid laugh and had his hand on a busty blonde wearing a much too little bikini.   She had a drink in her hand and was also in mid laugh.  Something was really wrong.  I grabbed Chase's arm and he felt warm and firm.  I then shook his arm a little and his arm shifted.

"Bitch!  You're all just screwing with me.  Good one."  I laughed.

There was no response.  Perturbed I looked at the Big Screen T.V. and saw that the screen was paned on the crowd at the game.  All the people were in mid cheer.  Some with their hands in the air others were pointing at the camera.  They were all unmoving.

"Hello?  Anybody hear me?"   I yelled.

Again nothing.  A cold sweat begin to form and roll down my back.  Something had happened, something terrible.  Did time stop?  Did aliens just start attacking?  Was this the rapture?   I ran up to a big black guy with no shirt on, he was smiling at a little brunette in a red thong bikini.  I pushed him as hard as I could.

"This is not funny!"  I screamed.

He flew back and landed on the ground.  His body was in the same posture as when he was standing.  Only he was laying on his back.  The same stupid smile was on his face.  His eyes did not blink.  Right there, I could have died.  Straight away, dead as a door nail. just flat out have a heart attack and die.  I fainted instead.

I don't know how long I had been out, but when I came to nothing had changed.  The guy I had pushed was still on the ground, looking out at nothing.  I stood up and looked around.  There was a pool outside, I ran out there to see if the people out there were under the same spell as the people in the house.  Much to my horror they were.   Many people were standing around in various frozen conversations.   I noticed a body in the pool was floating face down and it was moving in the gentle current.   I kicked off my sneakers and jumped into the pool, I grabbed the body, a guy, and pulled him out and onto the deck of the pool.   I tried CPR but nothing worked.  He was dead.  His lips were very blue and face was very white.   I thought to myself that maybe they're all dead.   I jumped up and put my hand on the neck of a server girl that was in mid stride when she was frozen.   I felt around for a pulse, and found nothing, but her skin was warm.  I looked back into the pool and saw that there was three people still in the pool, their heads were above water but I jumped back in and pulled them out on to the deck.  It was creepy to see them smiling with a hand extended and a beer firmly secured in their grips.

Now you would think that this would be the really weird part, but after I pulled the still warm bodies from the pool  I noticed that the sun was moving across the sky like it always does.  I even noticed a bird fly on by.  What the hell was going on?  At least the frozen time theory could be thrown out.  I walked back into the house, I needed to find a towel.

I sat on the couch in the main living room, just staring at the frozen people.  I knew I was probably in shock, but what do you do?   I was gazing at the star of Lost on the Moon, when I heard a loud bang upstairs.  It scared me so bad I screamed out in fear.   I sat motionless for a minute.  I heard no other sounds coming from upstairs.   I slowly got up and walked up the stairs.  My socks squished with each step.  When I got up to the second floor I was so scared I was peeing a little in my damp shorts.

"Hello?"  I said in a shaky voice.

If someone would have said hello back at that moment I would have dropped a load and fainted dead away.  I was hyper-ventilating and quickly staring to sweat profusely.  The first door on my right was slightly ajar.  I slowly looked in and saw a couple in...aaahh..a frozen compromising position.   I closed the door and moved next to the door on my left.   I turned the knob and slowly peered in to the room.  A women was on the floor, one leg was extended and she had a stocking rolled up to her calf.  The other leg's stocking was rolled all the way up to the thigh.  I think she was putting on stocking and when the world froze she eventually succumbed to the effects of gravity.  That was the sound I heard.  I had heard her fall.  She had a blank look on her face, and she too did not blink.  I reached down and touched her neck.  It was warm.

I sat on her bed and tried to think.  What the hell happened, and why did me taking a dump, keep me from freezing too?  I had ton's of questions and of course no answers.  As I pondered my dilemma, the day's events, too much drink and I nice comfortable bed proved to be my undoing and I fell fast asleep.  I dreamed of breathing on my face, blood, teeth and silent screams.

I bolted awake.  The sun was still up but no sounds greeted me.   I looked over the side of the bed and the woman was still there just as she had fell.  I picked her up and put her on the bed.  With a little effort I was able to bend her legs back to be straight with her body and put her hands by her sides.  I was even able to close her eyelids.   I took off my semi-wet shirt and shorts and went out to look for something drier.   As I approached the stairway back down to the ground floor, I glanced outside at the pool area and caught a glimpse of something jumping over the outside fence.  I stared trying to see if I was just going crazy, again.  After a minute of just staring I moved on down to the ground floor.   I went to the TV and the crowd was still in its frozen state.  I turned the channel.  Some stations were off the air.  Others the feeds just showed frozen people.  When I turned to WNN I was horrified to be staring at a woman reporter with half of her arm ripped off and I could hear something chewing behind the camera.  I put my hand to my mouth to quell my scream that was working its way from the bowels of my soul.   The woman's eyes did not blink, she just looked straight ahead with the polished look of a reporter ready to tell a tale she had told a hundred times before.   I just stared, taking in everything I could about the scene before me.  Then something pushed her over.  I couldn't see what it was, only hear as it feasted on the woman's flesh as the frozen camera man rolled live.  I slowly turned off the TV.   Just when I thought It couldn't get any worse, I see that.  I had to get all these people in the house as quick as I could.  Then I need to find a way to keep those things, whatever they were out, then during all of that figure out what the hell is going on?  I'm so screwed.

Whoa...That’s what I thought while reading and after I finished. This has a really different air to it, which I like. What you have so far is catching and made me think, "What the hell? What is going on here?" My mind was racing to try and figure things out, which is a good thing for sure.

So far the idea and concepts you have going on are fantastic. Writing-wise I'd recommend working on better sentence starters. I noticed a lot of sentences started with "I [verb]...." While this is grammatically correct, it kind of gets bogged down with all those "I this, I that, I then."

I would really like to read more and I think you have a lot of potential with this story!

Hey, thank you very much for your input I totally appreciate it.  I have a good friend helping me with sentence structure so yeah, I have tons of work to do on it.  I just wanted to really make sure the story had some legs.  I'm really glad you like the concept.

Excellent stuff Shane. How did you know we'd be looking for some Weird Post Apocalyptic Stories?

Lol. I didn't...I just wanted this out of my head.   Your new endevor of publishing all these great stories has caused my brain to go on Idea overload.  Most are so bad as to be unwritable, but every once in a while I get one that I think is fair to average and get it out to you.  Thank you for your comment.  I hope to have this really tight when I send it in to you.
