What new anthology would you Good Librarians like to see next?
We were talking in the Permuted chat last night that we wanted a Pickleology.

lol - I wrote a flash about a pickle which quite put one reader off her breakfast!

I bet you say that to all the ladies!
Goanna? Those things are creepy.
What about caymens? And those ugly ones who's names begin with 'g'? Inquiring minds need to know!

Gharial is what I was thinking of! Look at this ugly bastard:

Kinda reminds me of my cousin Guido.
Any of the following:
Insects
Wild Animal Attacks
Urban Horror
Rednecks
Gangsters
We could call it 'Crocodology'!

I totally agree with a cryptozoology-themed anthology. It's not done very much, and I have such a story that is looking for a home.
I'm not sure if it's been done, but how about an anthology called "Night Shift" or something of the sort. In it, strange/horrific things happen to (or are caused by) the protagonist(s) while working at night.
In an earlier post, someone shared the idea of an anthology based on classic rock songs. This got me to thinking: what about a horror anthology based on Elvis Presley's songs? I'm a huge Elvis fan, and would like to see this happening, but I'm not sure if it has been done before. I think Elvis and horror would be an interesting combination.
Lastly, how about an anthology of zombies with unlikely sources. They weren't caused by viruses or chemicals or evil magic, but something...different.
Gharial, a face only a mother could love...
We'll start submissions for a new anthology soon. I like the idea of cryptozoology. This won't happen for a bit though as we're just about ready to open submissions for "The Zombist: Undead in the Old West".
Keep your ideas coming!

An idea I've been thinking about that got a push today (read on!)
An antho set in a particular pre-created city or country, with a series of events that have already happened and cannot be deviated from. An imagined setting that is laid out for all contributors to work within, all the stories happen in this place and based on the actual events that have happened. Would be a lot of work to set up and keep track of accurately but the unity of the antho would be fantastic.
I just saw a fantastical super-intricate version of this idea which reminded me of it, called The Aether Age where they are putting together a collection of shorts based on an alternate history of the world where Egypt and Greece invented the printing press way early on and progressed a lot faster than anyone else.
Kinda like Thieves World's Sanctuary? I could go with that! Could use each others characters or refer to past events. Cool.

Heh. Allow me some self-pimpage while I say that idea has already been done:

Click on the link in my signature... this is (in part) what I did with POW!erful Tales, all though it was not as tightly bound as you envision. I built the history of the place from a combination of the publisher's requirements and inspiration from the submitted stories, and then worked with the authors to make it all fit during editing. And then I wrote an ending that tied it all together. Your way, of course, would be cool and much more unified, but it wasn't an option for me at the time. I think it would be a cool thing to try sometime.

I dunno... with crytpozoology you're confined to a few well-used beasties that are almost cliche by definition... but I guess you could say the same for giant monsters or the Cthulhu Mythos, which I personally find much more compelling. Just individual preference, I suppose.

I think there's a Stephen King collection called "Night Shift." And, as Derek pointed out, his book is close in both title and theme.

Sounds like New Bedlam! Not that that's a bad thing - I love things like this.
DO IT DO IT DOOO IT.

I was unaware of both works. Of course, it seems like too interesting an idea not to have been done before.
Don't know if these have been mentioned, but:
Insectology
Cannibalology (not necessarily restricted to human cannibalism)
Giggly Gore (humorous horror)
Just my two cents.
My vote's for Cannibalology! That would be a good anthology. I see people eating people, zombies eating zombies, werewolves eating werewolves...
Good idea myrrym!
