I was going to write a short story about those.
Really, was there any sort of compensation for their vertical challengedness?
The original Star Trek series had one episode called Plato's Stepchildren in which an ancient colony of humans had acquired telekinetic abilities due to unusual compounds in their environment. One member of the colony, a dwarf named Alexander, did not have this ability, because something in his physiology lacked the ability to process the compounds the same way that his full-sized fellow colonists could.
It would be interesting to explore a similar concept, in which (for example) a deficiency of growth hormone imparts some level of immunity to the zombie toxin/pathogen. You'd have to be careful to treat the subject with care so that your story doesn't become exploitative or pandering, but I think that it could turn into something cool and unusual.

Thanks for reminding me of that episode. Doesn't Alex ride Kirk like a horse while Spock recites poetry or something? Then dances around Kirk's head? LOL. Has to be 3rd season episode.
