Planet P Project: Pink World.

It is the only apocalyptic music album ever made.

I agree but I just picked up a copy of Sound of Perserverence by Death. It's incredible... It even has a cover of Painkiller. What's not to like?

Not true! The Epoxies "My New World" album, although short, does detail the events and aftermath of the end of the world.

Just saying...

The year was 1975 or '76 and I can remember listening to a station called Q105. I was eleven or twelve.  The songs I loved were things like 'How deep is your love' by the BeeGees, and Fleetwood Mac 'You make loving fun,' and the Eagles 'One of these nights.'  I was reading Tolkien for the first time, then everything Ray Bradbury ever wrote.  Then I made a friend who changed my life musically.  He played the following albums (no particular order) and I went nuts: Black Sabbath 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath'; Led Zeppelin 2; Rush '2112';  Pink Floyd 'Animals.'   I'm not sure if any of those groups ever really topped those albums.  What surprised me is that my parents bought me the Black Sabbath album and never even commented on its shocking cover to me.

Shocking for 1974 but if you look at deicide or early carcass record's it's nothing. But hey classics are classic for a reason.

I'm sure you're right.  Black Sabbath led me to Judas Priest, Rainbow and Alice Cooper, but that's as far as I went in that direction.  I've heard of Deicide, but couldn't tell you a single song they played.

Neither can I. But the singer ,Glen Benton, is one of the few men I hate with out even knowing. He's just a complete and total ass. I was having a converstion with a friend about deicide and how I hate Glen Benton and he siad, "DOn't worry, he probably haates  you too. So the feeling is mutual. He's just a man that hates everyone. Their music... It's brutal death metal so if Preist and Rainbow is your heavier side you may want to avoid it. Also, Glen makes it a point to insult christiananity in the most virulent ways.

PS I do like Sabbath Rainbow Priest and the Coop too.

Sorry if I came off as an angry person in the rant, I'm really a sadate person in real life.

I've got to agree with you on Deicide. They make some good music instrumentally as far as Black Metal is concerned, but to my knowledge, everyone in the Black Metal field is a complete dick, and most of their listeners are teenage redneck "goths" who don't like religion simply because their parents do. If you've never encountered one of these, you are lucky.

Insulting religion, or anything for that matter, just to be inflamatory does not fly by me. If you can justify it with some simple truth or fact, I might be able to agree. In general, the Black Metal community does not do this.

While I was writing for a free computer game I ran into a lot of people from all over the world.  Most of them, far younger than me (I?).  They tried to get me into Death Metal.  One of the groups I remember is Cradle of Filth.  When I heard it, the music wasn't anything new to me, but the singing was screaming.  I listened to two or three other bands, and I just couldn't get into it.  I really like a wide range of music, but I must be too old.  At least Geddy Lee's early music (2112) could still be called singing when he was portraying the Priests.  That was kick ass!

To each his own, and thanks for the warning about Deicide---Doesn't sound like my bag.

How about Iron Maiden's The Trooper?  "You take my life but I'll take yours too...You fire your musket but I'll run you through..."

Ahh, the old days...

I love that song.

The thing about black metal is that as much as they insult christinianty (Cradle of Filth included) several of the better (Emperor Immortal etc.) black metal bands takae a lot of inspiration from Scandinavia's sheer natural beauty and pre christian Paganism. Also Quorothon of bathory looks as it lyrics as almost funny becuase he'd write songs about raping angels and who'd want to do that?

I saw Maiden last year on their "Lets recreate the 80's" tour. It was freaking awesome and we had 5th row seats. It was really a recreation of the Powerslave tour which I saw back then too.

That was one awesome weekend. I saw Rush the day before Maiden. I felt 20 years younger.

Have you heard the band Kalisia? They are sort of a cross between Dream Theater and Emporer (I can't make this stuff up). Their newest is called Cybion and it is a 70+ minute song that rides the black/prog train all the way to town.
