Do zombies poop?

Wouldn't they sort of have to, after chowing down on all of that tasty brainy goodness?  And wouldn't that yield a nicely comic reversal of the time-honored "shit-for-brains" insult?

Although I grant that the subject offers a certain puerile amusement, it seems to me that it's a legimate point to ponder.  After all, mundane animals can be tracked by their spoor, so why not post mortem abominations?

If they don't excrete, what happens to what they eat?  Is it completely metabolized?  Does it just sort of fill them up, occupying the space formerly used by their now-shrivelled organs?  Do they regurgitate it paramecium-style after they've absorbed whatever they need from it?

Has this ever been explored within the genre, as far as you're aware?

Yes, In the zombie survival guide by MAx b. it says that on ocasion there will be so much food in the zombie's stomach that it will be forced out the anus besides, if the esophugs works than we can assume that hte same and lagre intestines work in a purly muscular sense.

The Librarians discussed this way back in episode 12 (I think) whicj led to the wonderful ZombieFarting contest in 13. This is still available for download, right at the bottom of the page, pun intended.
But it's always fun to talk about it again.
Either pushed out or explodes in the gut, boom splat.

It's just off the scope over at podomatic. It only goes back to 13 with the farting; the serious stuff was the one before (I think lol). All the old shows will be available from the updated website.

This is a subject that most movies and books don't cover. Assuming that zombie's are dead and that all the normal living processess have stopped, I think it could only be handled by it accumulating in the stomach until the stomach bursts open. Some may be pushed out the anus over time but I don't think it's any biological process causing this.

Another alternative is that even though it looks like they are eating a lot it's possible that the majority is falling out of their mouths and they are not ingesting as much as we think. If you tear a chunck out of a human and your covered in blood how much are you really eating? An ounce or two, or is most of it just falling back out of your mouth?

Good points!

Some zombies have been shown to bleed from wounds inflicted to the upper body.  This would indicate that something keeps the blood (or an equivalent red fluid) pumping, because otherwise it would settle into the lowest parts of the body a la post mortem lividity.

This, in turn, suggests that certain involuntary muscular processes are still chugging away, perhaps including those involving peristalsis etc.

Given all that, it's entirely possible that the chewed-up victims are passing through the body, even if they're not being digested in any conventional sense.  The progress through the intestines might also be slowed, at least in the case of classic Romero-esque shambling zombies.

You make a great point about the possibility of food falling out of the mouths.  Depending on the integrity of the stomach and intestines, food might dump out into the abdominal cavity or even fall out of the body entirely.

What a delightfully appetizing conversation!

I'm still trying to find, after 2 years, this reference to a zombie waddling like a toddler with a full nappy because his trousers were so full of zombie poo. I know it's in a novel but no idea which one.

Offtopic: Oh and Doc? Do you remember me saying once, in a discussion about zombie animals or if zombie eat animals, that I saw a zombie eat a mouse in NOTLD? I know why I thought that now lol. It was a big bug in the original but a mouse in the 90s remake! Wow, that's a blast from the past :)

Do zombies poop?  Pardon me, but noooo, we don't "poop."

We defecate delicately using the appropriate appliances and modern conveniences ....  grin

No - Santa's brain was eaten a few years ago.  He wanders around once and a while, but it's not really him .....

This reminds me of something funny Sammy did a few days ago:

We were in the truck on the way to watch "Lost" at my friend's house, and that song "Click, Click Boom" was on the radio. Sammy added his very own lyrics, which in my opinion, were very creative: "Plop, plop, flush!"

I love having boys.
