For those of you who own or are familiar with hand guns .... what's your gun of choice for the zompocalypse?

I really like my Beretta 92FS 9mm. REALLY LIKE IT! As in I'm a deadly shot with it. I guess that comes from having my own shooting range behind the house.

This wonderful hand gun is semi-automatic and will hold a 30 round bannana clip. (I bought two of these 30 round clips years ago.) The gun has tritium triple sites and State Police grips. It fits so well in my hand that it's like an extension of my arm.

Well, I hate to quote Max Brooks and his phenomenal book. But he was correct when he pointed out that handguns are a romance and lust of Americana. We love them in this country.Considering that handguns are innately mid to point-blank weapons. I'd say if your pulling that out, your in trouble in the first place. In a moment of intense panic and fear, cut your effective, accurate range in half.

But if it was a handgun or say, an Xbox controller or a dustpan...it'd be the damn gun everytime. If I had a choice though and time to obtain the necessary ammuntion... it'd be .45, probably the classic grand-daddy Model 1911. The Beretta 92F though is also a very good choice, also on my list. Maybe even a Browning HP.

I have a Luger 9mm next to my bed. Living in a big city one can never be too sure. Two in the chest and one in the head for any home invasion. But when the dead rise it's no longer about the chestshot right?

Keep 'em coming.

I'm going to have my Ruger Mark III with me for one. Why, it's .22LR and thus I can share ammo with the rifle once I run out of ammo for the .45. When you go to ransack the local shopping center after everyone has been there I am wiling to bet the 9mm and 45 ammo would have already went away but the boxes of 22 wold still be sitting on the shelves. Now of course cruising around with a 22 rifle and pistol might not seem that manly but if you don't have ammo for your guns then they are pretty much useless.

You know I don't think I have met a group of people with so much gun knowledge! Sadly I do not own a gun of any kind. My parents only reluctantly gave me a bb gun. it was a daisy single pump. they were wrong I wasn't gong to shoot myself, but I did shoot a few friends. I guess they didn't believe I would actually shoot. He still had a scar the last time I saw him.

It's great to see a Ruger 22 listed. I have a Mark II and with my 22 rifle I would only have to carry one type of ammo. And you can carry a shitload of 22 LRs. The only problem I have with the Ruger is that it's so fucking heavy compared to my Beretta 92FS. The 45 is also a kick ass hand gun. I have a Springfield 1911-A on my bedside at home. The only problem I see with it is also it's weight (it's heavy as hell) and it is VERY LOUD when fired. Mine does have an extended 15 + 1 clip so that would help. But then again I'd have to carry additional and different rounds. 45 rounds are heavy as well.

The gun-knowledge is a bit scary for some of us that only get to fire guns on the House of the Dead game lol.

Best to know your gun than to shoot your eye out!

I have two custom 1911's myself, love em but they are quite loud but they sure do pack a punch. One thing I would look into if there was enough time would be silencers. I know that you can build them out of a variety of things and there are a ton of directions out there on the internet...(just finished the first draft of a novel and I was researching..not going postal or anything).... silence is the way to go. If you can still pack the punch without the noise to give you away that would be the best was to go I would think.

Friend of mine who is the Chief of Police here in New Cumberland has a really nice carry 1911 made of composite. I was amazed at how light it was.

My wife carries a S&W 38 semi-automatic I bought her for Christmas a year ago. It's a really nice hand gun. Perfect for her because it's also made of composite and extremely light and small. Has a deadly grip laser on it too.

Hey, did you know that some cop ammo is actually illegal for members of the public?

The nice security officer that stopped me at customs to relieve me of my live ammo told me so.

Yup, that's the truth. All armor piercing ammo is illegal for the general public to own. There's also some high grain ammo that's illegal too.

yeah, but that's the advantage to loading your own rounds. My father up in missouri (the patron state of shooting shit) does it all the time. Not like he'd ever create illegal ammo...

Guns are a necessity in society. The best defense against tyranny is a well-armed populace. But when and if the dead rise. I'd rather know everything I can about firearms...or anything else that I'm going to need. Whiskey stills, agriculture, carpentry, masonary, mechanics. Any of it is useful.

Now wait a minute! I thought the English were not allowed the ownership of guns. I thought they only allowed them cricket bats!

As for skills, there is an old classic set of books that will teach ya all ya need to know about how to lives on. It's the foxfire series. Some high school teaher decided a good way to learn his students would be to send them up in the mountains to interview the country folk. Those books cover stills, guns, how to clean yer critters, blacksmithing, etc.

I think I'll go with the 9mm Glock. It has common rounds that are easily available, sound is sound, any sound is goning to attract the horde. Its light, composite, idiot proof, and the rounds can be found at the dessimated police station.

Nah, they won't let us play with guns. I had been in upstate NY shooting off rounds from a Winchester and a er can't remember the other (was an old WW2 one). One bullet jammed so I kept it as a souvenir..."must remember to take that outta my pocket", I thought....the rest is a good tale to tell hehe.

I thought the Brits were allowed to have shotguns for hunting? Those would work well with zombies too!

Winchester! I just had a "Shaun" moment!

Man, our british (heh) "allies" hadn't even issued sidearms to their police officers until, like the seventies or something.

Police officers, Bobbies, Constables whatever.

I know, I know. We still give them big sticks to hit pickpockets and highwaymen with.

I don't own any, but I've got a close friend who does, and he's just across town (small town... about one mile away). He's got an M4 Carbine, and M1 Garand, and his dad has a turn of the century Springfield. They've also got a Mauser and several Russian rifles, World War 2 era.

As for handguns, they've got a .38 Special, a Glock 17, an old Service Colt .45, nickel plated, and an Artilleryman's Luger, with stock, all in good shape.

As for my personal choice, I don't know what type of gun it was. It was an 8 shot revolver with a middle length barrel. It fired .38s, if I'm not mistaken. It was foreign, but it shot smoothly, and I managed to fire it with passable accuracy at about 50 yards. Plus it looked really cool.
