FLICKR: Guns 006
What weapons would work best? What weapons won't work? What weapons do you have at hand? What weapons do you need to get?
Are bludgeons better than firearms because they don't need reloaded? Is a shotgun better than a rifle? Are handguns any good at all? Do you need automatic weapons?
Good Librarians want to know!!
Well, I can tell you for certain that a carrot, three peas and a thimble will most certainly NOT be very good weapons.
A firearm is a great thing to have to keep them at bay and not let them get to close to you, but, as much as I like the idea of firearms, I don't want to take a risk of something that will run out of ammo or jam up on me in a pinch without some sort of back up weapon, so I think that you really shouldn't have one with out the other.
I would use bludgeons because they don't need reloading (damn Max Brooks) and can't block. There's one downside... bludgeons are heavy to swing and makes you arms go numb when you use them many times. Knifes are also good, but they can't kill zombies, only slice grasping hands.
Quarterstaff - With sharp three inch blades in one end (for brain puncture shots). Quarterstaffs are what I would go with, as they're better for keeping the living at bay, and still give me the ability for a kill shot.
I must admit that I'm on the look out for one of those aluminium crowbars that are mentioned in the ZSG, bit close up but useful in other ways.
Twightlight of the Dead seems to me to have the ideal weapons array, long and short range.
There are several things I would use:
1.) Machete (light and versatile)
2.) Baseball bat
3.) Heavy Gloves with brass knuckles on the outside!
4.) Some sort of face mask or visor (to keep the gore off my face)
As far as fire arms, I would use some sort of revolver (easier to maintain) or hunting rifle.
Me I just plan on hiding. I run a lot o I'm not too concerned with them catching me. Of course i understand if I get in with a group that makes me the likely "volunteer" to search for supplies. If I was to grab weapons, they wold most certainly not be a knife. If the zombies are that close you may as well use that knife to slit wrists. I guess I would have to grab A gun from somewhere. Lots of hunters out here, so they are my gun cabinet. Its pretty pointless to use a gun. Once you fire it you better plan on getting the fuck out of there quick. So I say find a good hiding spot, and try to build some Mad Maxx type weapons fron high atop a large building.
And this is just some of my room mates guns...most of them are at the farm. I myself prefer the shotguns more power but for real stuff I'd want something that had a lot of bullets and would not hit me in the face from recoil. And before anyone thinks to ask I don't know the names of most of these...I don't remember street names or people names either so it isn't anything personal.
And if that isn't funny enough I was wearing the zombie finger puppets when I took the picture.
Shotguns make me happy. But if I run out of ammo, bat is good one on one, one on two. Three or more you need a chainsaw! But the pole trimmer is interesting...hummm.
The trouble with chainsaws is the noise they make. It will attract more zombies than you have fuel for. And if it runs out or stalls, then you are surrounded by a huge crowd of curious deadheads. Oops don't forget the fatigue factor also, hefting and swinging will tire you out.
I prefer the lawnmower strapped to the chest myself :)
Never seen those pole trimmers before. Gas powered eh? Run quietly? Nice one.
Yeah, unfortunately, I think survival would depend on getting up close and personal with the undead and using blades/bludgeons. Don't want to mess with the noise/ammo/mechanics issues that come with complex weapons.
You most important assests, IMO, would be dexterity and stealth. Avoid the dead when you can, dodge them when you can't. But, if it comes down to it, take their head off.
Hehe, just watching Undead for the second in er 3yrs...
I forgot about the cool shotgun that Marion has. 3 stuck together, BOOM.
UNDEAD...the last movie I will ever buy based on stills and a really cool cover.
As for preparedness, I will stay and fight. Unfortunately, my house is a ranch (1 floor with a basement) with lots of large windows. And, the back of my lot fades into the woods. I do have a neighbor with lots of hunting equipment and an ATV, so as long as he survives I should be good to go. Should the need to flee arise another neighbor owns a marina nearby. And whilst I don't know him well, seems nice enough. Still, I am the type to hunker down and dig in, so the Mrs. and I will line up our extensive collection of long handled garden implements and go to war. God help any zombie that steps one bloodied stump of a limp foot onto one of my wifes flowers.
Really? You not like?
I wasn't too struck on it when I saw it the first time I saw it (naughty download a year before it came out!) but I'm enjoying it a lot more second time around. Fun characters and over the top evildeadesque action. I remember the ending being a bit weird and not really understanding what the hell was going on with the aliens etc but maybe this time I will!
What were your dislikes, Van?
The great thing about the zombie uprising is that it don't matter a jot if the neighbours survive or not. Their stuff is your stuff if they don't, hurrah!
Well, I dislike the ufo thing. And I too got a little confused as to what the hell was really going on. The spfx got a little cheesy at the end. Maybe I should take it out and give it another chance. When I bought the movie, I was in a serious zombie mood (had just seen the new DotD) and was tired of the Over the Top.
